Gertrude Abercrombie (17 Février, 1909 au 3 Juillet, 1977) était une peintre américaine de Chicago. Appelée «la reine de la bohème artistique», Abercrombie a été très impliquée dans la scène jazz de Chicago et amie avec des musiciens tels que Dizzy Gillespie , Charlie Parker et Sarah Vaughan qui venaient jouer chez elle et dont la musique a inspiré son propre travail de création.

Artiste autodidacte, elle étudie toutefois brièvement l’art à l’Université de l’Illinois. Dans les années 1930, elle travaille à la Fédéral Art Project.
